i have a serger sewing machine an im new to learning this machine,but its the thread?
i am wanting to know about,do i have to use the cone thread that is used with this machine.Can i use the regular thread i use on my regular sewing machine?i want to do some basic hemming of pants can this be done on a serger also?
Sergers use a lot of thread and it is more economical to buy the cones. You can do a lot with just the basics - white, black and tan.
In a pinch you can use regular sewing thread and make up bobbins to use on the spool pins - remember these will empty pretty quickly.
Hemming pants - not unless the machine has the capability of blind stitching. This would be in the manual. I have a BabyLock Imagine that will set up for the blind stitch, but I prefer to use the sewing machine for this.
A 5-Thread Serger/coverlock will do a stitch that looks like double row top stitching (like the hem of a t-shirt).
As you go through the manual, stitch a few samples to get acquainted with the different settings and features.
